Frequently asked questions

Find quick answers to common queries about Lokalist and our services
  • How do I add my business to Lokalist?

Open lokalist.my/add-business and fill in the form. It asks for your business name, the category, your address or the areas you cover, your phone number, your opening hours, a description of up to 500 characters, and up to 3 photos. A Community listing is free.

Someone at Lokalist reads every new listing first. It goes up within 5 working days, and we email you when it’s live. If your business is already on Lokalist, claim that listing instead of adding a new one.

  • How do I claim my business on Lokalist?

Find your business on Lokalist and click “Claim this business”. Make a free account, tell us your name and your role at the business, and show the listing is yours. Two ways to show it:

    • An email sent from your business’s own email address, the one that ends with your website name.
    • A document instead: an SSM certificate, a utility bill, or a letter from the owner that says you act for the business.

We don’t send a code to your phone. The form takes a few minutes, and a person reads every claim and emails you the answer within 5 working days.

  • How does Lokalist differ from other business directories?

Lokalist shows you the records behind a business. Each listing shows three things, and we say where each one comes from: the halal record from JAKIM, the registration from SSM, and the owner’s claim.

We don’t issue any of this ourselves. We just show what the records already say. We’re also planning more badges: some that the owner ticks, like family-owned or wheelchair access, and some that the community gives. The roadmap page lists them, with everything else that’s live or planned.

  • What is Lokalist?

Lokalist is a directory of local businesses in Malaysia. Each listing shows if the business is halal-certified by JAKIM, if it’s registered with SSM, and if the owner has claimed it. We say where each check comes from.

We built it because the good local businesses were the hardest to find online, and the only sure way was to ask around. Lokalist puts those answers in one place, with the records behind them.
