Frequently asked questions

Find quick answers to common queries about Lokalist and our services
  • Once I’ve claimed my business, can I transfer ownership to someone else?

Yes, you can transfer ownership of your business listing to another user. This process requires verification from both parties. Please contact our support team to initiate an ownership transfer.

  • What should I do if I’m having trouble claiming my business?

Email support@lokalist.my and tell us what happened. We reply within 5 working days.

If the proof is the problem, a document works: an SSM certificate, a utility bill, or a letter from the owner that says you act for the business. A person reads it and writes back.

  • Can multiple people claim the same business?

No. One person holds each listing at a time.

If someone else claims a listing you already hold, we tell you both, look at both sets of proof, and a person here decides. Nothing changes on the listing while we sort it out.

Passing a listing to someone else is a different thing. Both of you email support@lokalist.my, and we move it across.

  • What are the benefits of claiming my business on Lokalist?

You get control of the listing, and it costs nothing. Once your claim goes through, you can:

    • Change your details and your hours, and add up to 3 photos.
    • Take down or swap any photo or wording we pulled from public records, and write the description in your own words.
    • Tick the things that apply, like wheelchair access, kid-friendly, or Wi-Fi.
    • Say the business is woman-owned or Bumiputera-owned, and a person here checks that against the SSM record.

A claim doesn’t come with a badge. See the roadmap page for what’s coming next.

  • How long does the claiming process take?

The form takes a few minutes, and you’ll have an answer within 5 working days.

A person here reads every claim and decides it. We email you the result either way. If we need something more from you, we’ll email before the 5 days are up.

  • What information do I need to provide to claim my business?

Your name, your role at the business, and one piece of proof that the business is yours. Proof can be one of two things.

    • An email sent from your business’s own email address, the one that ends with your website name.
    • A document, such as an SSM certificate, a utility bill, or a letter from the owner that says you act for the business.

You also tick a box to say you agree to the terms of use, and you need to be 18 or older. There’s no code to wait for on your phone. The form takes a few minutes.

  • Is there a fee to claim my business on Lokalist?

No, a claim is free, and so is the account you make to send it. Adding your business is free too, and it stays free. Once the claim goes through, you can edit the details, the hours, and the photos, and you pay nothing for any of that. The first paid step is the Verified Business badge. What it costs, and what comes with it, is on the pricing page.

  • What if my business is not yet listed on Lokalist?

If your business isn’t listed, you can add it to Lokalist by clicking on the “Add Your Business” button on our homepage and following the prompts to create a new listing.

  • How do I claim my business on Lokalist?

Find your business on Lokalist and click “Claim this business”. Make a free account, tell us your name and your role at the business, and show the listing is yours. Two ways to show it:

    • An email sent from your business’s own email address, the one that ends with your website name.
    • A document instead: an SSM certificate, a utility bill, or a letter from the owner that says you act for the business.

We don’t send a code to your phone. The form takes a few minutes, and a person reads every claim and emails you the answer within 5 working days.

  • What does it mean to “claim” my business on Lokalist?

Claiming means you tell us the business is yours, and then you run the listing. It’s free. You can change the details, the opening hours, and the photos whenever you like. If we put up a photo or a line of text from public records, you can take it down or replace it. You can also tick the features that apply, and say the business is woman-owned or Bumiputera-owned. A claim doesn’t come with a badge. The Verified Business badge is the first paid step, on the pricing page.
